Which Latin American countries do you source from and why?
At Guilty Coffee, we source from seven distinctive regions across Latin America. Each brings something special to our coffee programme. Our Brazilian beans are selected for their full body and intense chocolate notes, whilst Colombian coffee offers that perfect balance of sweetness and bright citrus tones we love. From Costa Rica, we source beans known for their clean, bright profile with distinctive honey sweetness. El Salvador provides us with beautifully smooth chocolatey notes complemented by subtle apple-like acidity. Our Guatemalan beans are chosen for their complex spice notes and caramel sweetness. Honduras gives us perfectly balanced cups with delightful chocolate and fruit characteristics. Finally, our Peruvian beans bring sweet, floral notes with a gentle acidity that our customers adore.
How do these origins differ in taste profile?
The taste differences between our Latin American coffees are fascinating. Brazilian coffee presents rich chocolate and nutty notes with low acidity and a smooth finish. Colombian beans offer a harmonious blend of caramel sweetness and citrus brightness. Costa Rican coffee delivers clean, bright cups with pronounced honey sweetness and excellent clarity. El Salvadoran beans provide smooth chocolate notes with subtle fruit undertones. Guatemalan coffee brings complex spice characteristics balanced with caramel sweetness. Honduran beans offer a delightful mix of chocolate notes and tropical fruit flavours. Peruvian coffee rounds out our selection with its sweet, floral characteristics and gentle citrus notes.
When are these coffees in season?
Coffee harvesting in Latin America follows a unique seasonal pattern. Brazilian harvests occur between June and September. Colombia has two main harvests: their primary crop from September to December and a secondary crop from April to June. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras share similar harvesting periods from December to March. Peruvian harvests run from April to September. This variety of harvest times allows us to offer fresh crop coffees throughout the year.
How should I store these coffees at home?
Storage recommendations are consistent across all our Latin American beans. Keep them in an airtight container away from direct sunlight. For the best experience, use them within four weeks of roasting. We recommend buying smaller quantities more frequently rather than storing large amounts. Avoid storing beans in the fridge or freezer, as this can affect their flavour and aroma.
What makes Latin American coffee special compared to other regions?
Latin American coffees are renowned for their exceptional balance and approachability. Whilst African coffees often bring bright, fruity notes and Asian coffees offer earthy depth, our Latin American selection provides a perfect middle ground. These beans typically offer chocolate and nut characteristics, medium body, and moderate acidity, making them incredibly versatile and appealing to a wide range of coffee preferences.
