What makes African coffee beans unique compared to other regions?
The African coffees we source have distinctive fruity and floral characteristics that set them apart. Our Ethiopian beans often showcase bright, berry-like notes with jasmine undertones. Kenyan coffees bring bold, wine-like acidity with black currant notes, while our Ugandan beans offer a perfect balance of chocolate and citrus flavors. The unique climate and high altitudes of these regions create flavour profiles you simply can’t find anywhere else.
Why do we specifically choose Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia?
We’ve carefully selected these three origins because they represent some of the finest coffee-growing regions in Africa. Ethiopia, as the birthplace of coffee, provides us with incredibly complex and aromatic beans. Kenya’s strict grading system ensures we get consistently exceptional beans with their characteristic bold flavours. Uganda, often overlooked, has been our hidden gem, offering excellent beans with a perfect balance of acidity and body that our customers love.
Are African coffee beans more acidic?
Whilst African coffees are known for their bright acidity, this doesn’t mean they’re harsh or sour. The acidity in our African beans is more like the pleasant tartness you’d find in fresh berries or citrus fruits. Our Kenyan beans have the most pronounced acidity, whilst our Ugandan selection offers a more balanced profile. If you’re sensitive to acidity, our baristas can recommend specific brewing methods to mellow these notes.
How do these origins pair with different milk alternatives?
Based on extensive testing in our cafes, we’ve found that our Ethiopian beans pair beautifully with almond milk, as it complements their floral notes. The bold flavours of our Kenyan beans stand up well to oat milk’s creamy texture, whilst our Ugandan beans work harmoniously with any milk alternative due to their balanced profile. Our baristas can help you find the perfect pairing for your preferred milk alternative.
