D.B Cooper pulled off the only unsolved air piracy case in American history. On November 24, 1971, a man using the alias Dan Cooper hijacked a Boeing 727 between Portland and Seattle. His true identity remains unknown, making him one of crime history’s most mysterious figures.

Somewhere over southwestern Washington state, Cooper lowered the rear stairs and jumped into the darkness. He parachuted with the money and one of the chutes into a thunderstorm with freezing rain. The conditions made survival unlikely, adding to the mystery.
The FBI’s investigation became the longest-running and most extensive in its history. They interviewed thousands of suspects and followed countless leads. Despite finding some of the ransom money in 1980, they never identified the hijacker.
